As far as is known, since 2005, Bangladeshi students started coming to Zhejiang University for higher education. Leaving loved ones in a country with a different language and culture, helping a newcomer student with basic information such as where to find halal food, or where to get mobile/internet access, or where and how to get to the shopping mall. There was no one to do it then. Those who came to study in Zhejiang in 2010-2011 also spent their first few days on campus in such a helpless and disoriented state. From this experience comes the realization that new Bangladeshi students will not be allowed to wear such helpless clothes in the future. Since then, they have been personally welcoming new students with warm welcome and cordial hospitality. This changed the bad situation at the beginning and the new students were able to start their journey to Zhejiang with ease. Later, since 2014, the number of Bangladeshi students in Zhejiang University has increased a lot. Bangladeshi students staying on campus including, Dr. Imrul Moshaddek Ahmed, Dr. Mahfuz Ara Begum, Dr. Golam Jalal Ahammed, Dr. Hafizur Rahman, Dr. Kamrul Hasan and other senior students, felt the need to bring this isolated and individualized process under an organizational structure to help newcomers. After several rounds of discussion and exchange of views, the organization started its journey on October 5, 2014 entitled “Bangladesh Students’ and Scholars ‘Association, Zhejiang University, China”; "A little Bangladesh in China" is the slogan.
Although the organization started its journey with the initial goal of providing overall support to the new students, later the activities of the organization did not stop at just those boundaries. Over the past six years, the organization has been celebrating various national and international days, including Bengali New Year, formally welcoming new students, organizing farewell receptions for graduates as well as Eid-ul-Fitr are organized very efficiently and in a grand manner. Moreover, by participating in the “International Student Fair” under the banner of this organization, has gained the unique and rare honor of representing Bangladesh in the international arena in China.
By creating a positive and respectful perception of Bangladesh in the minds of students coming to study in Zhejiang from neighboring countries in Europe, America and Asia, the organization has paved the way for a proud Bangladeshi citizen to walk with his multinational classmates.
This organization needs to be nurtured with compassion and love to ensure the cooperation, security, respect and dignity of higher education for future students who come to study in this picturesque campus of Zhejiang. This is the responsibility of all the former members of the organization who are dreaming, as well as the current members and all the future students. This is the responsibility of all of us.
যতদূর জানা যায়, ২০০৫ সাল থেকে জেজিয়াং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়য়ে বাংলাদেশী শিক্ষার্থীরা উচ্চ শিক্ষার্থে আসতে শুরু করে। ভিন্ন ভাষা আর ভিন্ন সংস্কৃতির এই দেশে প্রিয়জন ছেড়ে আসা, একদম নতুন একজন শিক্ষার্থীকে নুন্যতম তথ্য সেবা যেমনঃ হালাল খাবার কোথায় পাওয়া যায়, কিংবা মোবাইল/ইন্টারনেট এক্সেস কিভাবে পাওয়া যাবে অথবা শপিং মলটা কোথায় এবং কিভাবে সেখানে পৌঁছানো যাবে- এ ধরনের অতীব দরকারি তথ্যগুলো দিয়ে সহায়তা করার মত কেউ ছিলনা সেসময়। ২০১০-২০১১ সালের দিকে যারা জেজিয়াং এ পড়তে আসেন তারাও ক্যাম্পাসে তাদের প্রথম কিছুদিন এমন অসহায় আর দিশেহারা অবস্থার মধ্যে কাটিয়েছেন। এ অভিজ্ঞতা থেকে তাদের মধ্যে এই উপলব্ধি আসে যে ভবিষ্যতে নতুন বাংলাদেশী শিক্ষার্থীদের এমন অসহায় অবস্থায় পরতে দেওয়া যাবে না। তখন থেকেই তারা ব্যক্তিগতভাবে যে যার মত করে নবাগত শিক্ষার্থীদের উষ্ণ অভ্যর্থনা ও আন্তরিক আতিথেয়তায় বরণ করতে থাকেন। এতে প্রথম দিকের বাজে অবস্থা পাল্টাতে থাকে এবং নবাগত শিক্ষার্থীরা স্বচ্ছন্দে তাদের জেজিয়াং যাত্রা শুরু করতে সক্ষম হন। পরবর্তীতে ২০১৪ সাল থেকে জেজিয়াং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়য়ে বাংলাদেশী শিক্ষার্থীদের সংখ্যা অনেক বেড়ে যায়। তখন ক্যাম্পাসে অবস্থানরত ড. ইমরুল মোছাদ্দেক আহমদ, ড. মাহফুজ আরা বেগম, ড. গোলাম জালাল আহম্মেদ, ড. হাফিজুর রহমান, ড. কামরুল হাসান সহ অন্যান্য সিনিয়র শিক্ষার্থীগণ নবাগত শিক্ষার্থীদেরকে সহায়তার এই বিছিন্ন ও ব্যক্তিগত প্রক্রিয়াটিকে একটি সাংগঠনিক কাঠামোর আওতায় নিয়ে আসার প্রয়োজনীয়তা অনুভব করেন। কয়েকদফা আলাপ আলোচনা ও মত বিনিময় শেষে ২০১৪ সালের ৫ অক্টোবর তারিখে যাত্রা শুরু করে আজকের এই সংগঠন “Bangladesh Students’ and Scholars’ Association,।, Zhejiang University, China”; “চীনে একটুকরো বাংলাদেশ” যার স্লোগান।
নবাগত শিক্ষার্থীদের সার্বিক সহায়তার প্রাথমিক লক্ষ্য নিয়ে এই সংগঠনের যাত্রা শুরু হলেও পরবর্তীতে সংগঠনের কার্যক্রম কেবল ঐ গণ্ডির মধ্যেই আটকে থেকেনি। বিগত ছয় বছরে এই সংগঠন স্বদেশী শিক্ষার্থীদের একাডেমিক, আবাসিক বা দৈনন্দিন প্রয়োজনে পারস্পরিক সহযোগিতা বৃদ্ধি, বাংলাদেশের সংস্কৃতি ও ঐতিহ্যকে বিশ্ব পরিমণ্ডলে তুলে ধরার জন্য বাংলা নববর্ষসহ বিভিন্ন জাতীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক দিবস উদযাপন, নতুন শিক্ষার্থীদের আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে বরণ, ডিগ্রিপ্রাপ্তদের বিদায় সংবর্ধনার আয়োজন, ঈদ পরবর্তী পুনর্মিলনীসহ নানা অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করেছে অত্যন্ত দক্ষতার সাথে এবং জাঁকজমকপূর্ণ ভাবে। তাছাড়া এই সংগঠনের ব্যানারে International student fair-এ অংশগ্রহণের মাধ্যমে চীনের মাটিতে আন্তর্জাতিক পরিসরে বাংলাদেশকে প্রতিনিধিত্ব করার মত অনন্য ও বিরল গৌরব অর্জন করে এই সংগঠন। Zhejiang University, China”; “চীনে একটুকরো বাংলাদেশ” যার স্লোগান।
ইউরোপ, আমেরিকা এবং এশিয়ার প্রতিবেশী বিভিন্ন দেশ থেকে জেজিয়াং এ পড়তে আসা শিক্ষার্থীদের মনে বাংলাদেশ সম্পর্কে একটি ইতিবাচক এবং সম্মানজনক ধারনা তৈরির মাধ্যমে বহুজাতিক সহপাঠীদের সাথে একজন গর্বিত বাংলাদেশী নাগরিক হিসেবে মাথা উঁচু করে চলার ক্ষেত্র প্রস্তুত করেছে এই সংগঠন।
জেজিয়াং এর এই মনোরম ক্যাম্পাসে পড়তে আসা ভবিষ্যৎ শিক্ষার্থীদের সহযোগিতা, নিরাপত্তা, সম্মান ও মর্যাদার সাথে উচ্চশিক্ষা নিশ্চিত করতে এই সংগঠনটিকে দরদ দিয়ে ভালবাসা দিয়ে লালন করতে হবে। এ দায়িত্ব যেমন সংগঠনের স্বপ্নদ্রষ্টা সকল সাবেক সদস্যদের, তেমনি বর্তমান সদস্যদের এবং একইভাবে অনাগত সকল ভবিষ্যৎ শিক্ষার্থীদের। এ দায়িত্ব আমাদের সবার।
